My mom and I drove out east of Bend today in a rain storm that promised snow. There are a million excuses why we might have foregone this little adventure, but a single compelling reason to go. A reason that contains all of the good excuses in the universe. The rain knocked hard on my car roof as we sat in a dusty pull-off and talked about movies and other life stuff. The rain danced and dangled on the juniper tree limbs as I said, "So, should we get out?" The rain tip-toed across my windshield as I changed my shoes and took my time tying the laces. The rain slowed to a tiny two-step as I shut the door and snicked the door locks.
The barest hint of blue sky peered out behind heavy clouds on the horizon.
